A novembre 2017 si è tenuto in Friuli Venezia Giulia il 3° appuntamento del Cross Country tricolore. La Baja Primavera a marzo e l'Italian Baja in giugno hanno preceduto la Baja d'Autunno evidenziando un netto rilancio del Campionato Italiano, in particolare grazie all’impegno del Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone e all’impulso di Mauro Tavella. In un momento di stallo e incertezza della specialità, una serie d’innovazioni, d’iniziative e di rivisitazioni del regolamento, hanno dato nuovo entusiasmo e motivazione a tanti team e specialisti del settore cross country.
Degno di nota il nuovo Suzuki Challenge Classic, promosso da Massimo Nicoletti di Suzuki Italia e Emmetre Racing, con iscrizione gratuita per Samurai, Jimny e Gs. Altra gradita novità è stata l'introduzione del Trofeo Polaris, promosso da Diego Biella, responsabile produzione di Polaris Italia. Sfida tra mezzi Utv ribattezzati “Side by Side” in veste agonistica, subito raccolta da Yamaha che poi si è aggiudicata l’inedito Trofeo TM, mentre Can-Am e Artic Cat meditano di inserirsi a loro volta.
Ma i cambiamenti non sono certo finiti con il 2017. Anzi, proprio alla Baja d'Autunno si è potuta “assaggiare” una new entry davvero notevole e unica nel suo genere. Ci riferiamo alla nuova categoria "TX", inserita già a novembre, durante la conferenza stampa di fine gara, nel programma del 2018, al momento in via sperimentale. Per la tipologia di questi mezzi verrà opportunamente stilata una classifica a sé stante.
Ad aprire la strada alla nuova categoria, con tanto di verifiche tecniche e un test-drive durante un intervallo della Baja d’Autunno, è stato Pier Acerni navigato da Nicola Bondi, esaltando a dir poco l'intero staff di gara e il pubblico presente, dando un piccolo assaggio delle potenzialità del suo veicolo Ultra4 "scarlett79", prototipo allestito per il mitico evento motoristico "King of the Hammers" che si disputa a febbraio in America nella Johnson Valley, considerato da tutti il giorno di gara più duro al mondo. La scheda tecnica di questo mezzo parla di 680 cavalli, 6000 cc di cilindrata, pneumatici da 40 pollici, ma il Gruppo TX darà modo anche ai tubolari di cilindrate inferiori (Stock e Modified) di poter partecipare al Cross Country. Ce n'è veramente per tutti i gusti e il territorio delle Baja pordenonesi, con abbondanza di woops e pietraie, pare fatto apposta per le caratteristiche di potenza, robustezza e agilità dei “nuovi mostri”.
I veicoli Ultra4 hanno girato per la prima volta in Italia alla gara Ultra4 Europe capitanata dal patron Dave Cole, tenutasi in collaborazione con Grip Motorsports nel giugno 2014. Ad essere incoronato primo "King of the Mountains" è stato il giovane americano Levi Shirley del Lucky Dog Racing. Li abbiamo visti arrampicarsi sui 250 metri di rock crawling e volare sugli innumerevoli twist con una potenza impressionante, dimostrando assetti davvero performanti.
Ora, con l'introduzione di questa nuovo Gruppo TX nella stagione 2018, possiamo di nuovo avere l'occasione di vedere in Italia questi meravigliosi veicoli, dando nel contempo la possibilità ai team interessati alla specialità cross country di iniziare a preparare i fuoristrada secondo il regolamento tecnico e poter così rientrare in una delle categorie previste.

TX Group, the "new monsters" of Cross Country.

Leading the way to the new category with technical checks and a test-drive during an interval of the Baja d’Autunno, has been the crew Pier Acerni/Nicola Bondi who has exalted the entire staff and public present, giving a little taste of the potential of its Ultra4 vehicle "scarlett79", a prototype prepared for the legendary "King of the Hammers" motoring event held in America, in Johnson Valley, considered by everyone to be the hardest race day in the world. The technical sheet of this vehicle speaks of Mopar 680HP engine, 6.0V8 and and 40-inch tires, but this TX group will also allow the smoller tubulars (stock and modified) to participate in the Cross Country.
